Getting Ready with

Malik Lindo

In "Getting Ready with..." we’re asking our friends to share their skincare routine. And today we visited Malik Lindo—a successful model, DJ, and up-and-coming photographer from New York—to ask questions about his morning rituals to start the day.

WHAT'S YOUR Skin Type?

I have "combination skin"—simultaneously dry and oily.

What’s your morning routine?

My morning routine is to stretch, wash my face, moisturize, and have breakfast.

What is the step-by-step to your skincare routine?

First, I wet my face with warm water and then lather some Fenty Skin Total Cleans’r on my face using my silicone Flex face scrubber. Sometimes I switch it up with Dr. Barbra Sturm Cleanser. I rinse with cold water and then apply Fat Water Toner Serum, and Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream SPF 30, which also has sunscreen in it. When I need to be extra awake, I use Peter Thomas Roth Eye Patches. And to refresh my face during the day, Sun Potion Solar Rose Water definitely helps.

How do you shop for skincare products?

I typically shop for skincare products online, usually from Amazon or Instagram (that’s how I discovered the face scrubber I use).

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHAT PRODUCTS YOU USE BASED ON HOW YOUR SKIN FEELS THAT DAY?

I will always wash my face using a cleanser in the morning and at night, no matter what; however, I will use a lighter or heavier moisturizer depending on how dry it feels.

How does self care play into your confidence?

When I am taking care of myself—especially my skin—not only do I look good, but I also feel good. It ties into my career as a fashion model because it’s my job to get my picture taken. So the better I look in pictures, the more confident I feel that I will continue to be booked on more shoots.

How would you define beauty?

I would describe beauty as being anything that reminds you you’re alive. I think that there is beauty in everything from the food you eat, to the scents you smell throughout the day—good or bad. If it makes you feel something, to me, that is beautiful.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR YOU TO GET READY HEAD TO TOE?

Approximately 1 hour.
